Portable HardDrive

Perfect with Time Machine
In looking for an external hard drive to connect with Time Machine on my MacBook Pro, I was drawn to this model because it is pre-formatted for Mac and was the right capacity and price for my needs. All I had to do was plug it in and turn Time Machine on -- a few clicks and everything was backed up! The first backup took a long time to run, but since then they've been quick and easy. I have chosen not to leave this plugged into my computer all the time since it runs a little warm and I don't need multiple back-ups each day. Portability was not really a big issue for me since I don't travel with my computer much, but this drive is so light and slim it would be easy to slip into a computer travel bag with no problem. A perfect solution to back up my music, photos, and documents!

Very good!!!
It is an enclosure so you can switch 2.5" SATA HDD if you wish. The product is very good and works with all my machines. I some of them is needed the two usb connectors.

Iomega eGo 320GB
I have had this for almost 6 weeks. So far it is working great. It comes with both a firewire cable and a usb cable. I mostly use it on my desktop XP machine, with the firewire cable. I have also used it on my laptop (Vista), with the usb cable.
As other reviewers have stated, it does run very hot. In fact, it is uncomfortable to pick up and hold in your hand after it has been plugged in for a while. It is a little worrisome, but I can't comment on the durability after only 6 weeks of ownership.

Usuability comments: Comes with 2 separate cables as mentioned, usb & firewire. The cables seem to be about 2 feet long. Does NOT come with any software. You need to go to the Iomega website and download their "Retrospect" backup software (you get a d/l code in the box when you buy the drive). I did this, but I HATED the software. I uninstalled it almost immediately. Instead, I went to microsoft.com and downloaded their free "synctoy" backup software, which works fantastic and easy, and gives you several choices.
Also, I was told that the drive comes formatted for windows, but that was not the case. I had to initialize the drive, and then format it through the Disk Management feature of windows. I couldn't figure out how to do it in Vista on my laptop, so I did it with XP on my desktop.

Iomega eGo 500 GB
Excellent, compact product. Good price. It runs a little hot and it would be nice if it could be stacked somehow. I like the hard metal case for transportation, although I wouldn't drop it.

I am very happy with this product. I had overloaded the hard drive on my Mac mini, and rather than buy a new computer, I chose this 320 GB external hard drive. It worked seamlessly, from the start, with the Fire Wire connection(much better than USB), and after I transferred all my documents, music(4,500 songs in my iTunes), and almost 20 GB in pictures, my computer runs MUCH faster. I would heartily recommend this product to anyone, particularly those with Macs.

Awesome backup external hard drive, BUT....
Very useful drive for backup. Automatically is detected by your computer and updates files that have been changed. However, if you have Windows VISTA and 64-bit OS, the drive DOES NOT WORK. Consistently crashes the computer when hooked up with the BSOD. Clickfree support was not helpful. Also, you cannot use this drive with Mac and Windows synchronously. You have to format and use one or the other.

More Than I Expected!!
This device arrived exactly as advertised. It was so easy to use it was unbelievable. I found in my particular use that important files were backed up however there were a few special files that I needed to go back and individually back up. I have recovered to a new Laptop with ease and have also backed up a second Laptop. Excellent Product, I'm recommending to my family and friends!!

Great
Everyone should have one of these. I backed up the data on three computers with mine. It finds all the data files and backs them up. First backup takes a while. Subsequent backups are zippy. To save space you can delete some data and tell it not to back it up again. But it has tons of space.

Back up external drive
Very easy to use. I really liked this drive. Plug it in and your done. Gives you an easy to see and use list of files you have backed up.

Easiest Backups Ever
I've used everything from CD's to thumb drives, online backup services to external hard drives. This is by far the simplest and most convenient backup device I have ever used. It automatically selects all of your data files (although you can manually choose what you want as well) and has them backed up in record time. You can search the drive and restore files just as easily. No software to install, just plug it in and tell it to go!

Looks ready for battle
I bought this for my teenage son. He's very hard on everything he touches. This seemed very durable. We saw a review on the Popular Mechanics website and they dropped it from above 15 ft. and drove a car tire over it and it still kept on working. It did better than all other similar products. That sold me! We've only used it for a brief time, but I felt OK about having my son take it on a two week road trip where it hit the floor a couple of times with no problems.

real nice
I just attached this drive to my 10 in Acer - recognized it right away running Windows XP - I copied about 10 gigs of image and music files with no problem - in about 10 minutes. I kept it attached with the laptop running for 3 hours - it did not get hot like others have mentioned - hardly even warm - not sure if leaving it attached would result in a hot to handle item - but I think that at least for a few hours heat will be no problem.

It was formatted in NTSF out of the box - I did not have to do anything so I am not sure why others did. If it holds up, and I think it will since I do not plan to use it on a daily basis, then this was a nice buy

Easy to use
I purchased this drive as a place to backup my hard drive as well as storing files that I don't necessarily want taking up significant space. This drive has been ideal for those tasks. It's as simple to use as a thumb drive and has a ton of space for the price. This was an impulse buy and I am very glad I went with the impulse.

Excellent drive
As far as USB hard drives go, this is a good choice. It's fast, it's pretty, and it's not too big. Reliability will probably be good, but I've only had it for a month, so I can't say much yet. If it dies unexpectedly I'll come back and update my review.

Easy to use, solid backup option
I read an on-line review stating how rugged this drive was, so I ordered one. It needs 2 USB ports to work (one is for the power to run the drive and the other is for data transfer). I'll probably order another in a different color and rotate them for my backups (I also back up off-line daily which I highly recommend).

No problem...so far!
Delivered as expected, was easy to set up, and worked the first time. Still working days later!

Great external hard drive enclosure
I bought this external hard drive enclosure in Frys electronics. At first, my old computer did not see it and I was about to return it when I thought of reading the manual and google online if others have similar problems and sure enough. For old computers sometimes it is not being recognized. Therefore, I have to make sure it can be seen first. I flipped through the manual and followed the instructions there. It was not hard to do. It worked great! I really liked the built. It is sturdy and stable. Since then I took it for granted until this morning when that same computer decided to freeze on me and can't open anything at all. so then, I removed the hard drive from the PC and moved it to this enclosure (removed the one sitting in the encosure of course), plugged it in on my other 64 bit vista laptop, whalah! like magic, it worked in seconds. I didn't have to do anything. Just plug it into the usb port. I see all my files, documents, pictures, songs, etc, things I considered important. Such a great relief. Nothing like reunited with my almost lost stuff :) as simple as using this external hard drive.

It worths the price!
I bought it at Fry's for .99, and it works great and quite! I used it on a Mac. Both SATA and PATA compatible. There are some cheaper ones but this is a more sturdy enclosure compare to the other ones and with the right price.

But, not designed for frequent mounting and dismounting.

Good but not for every Hard Drive

It is working fine but not with every hard drive. I had a 300Gb Quantum that wouldn't power up at all although it worked with every other hard drive I had at hand. I had other enclosures that powered up the mentioned hard drive without any issues.

Nice to have
cool device but it is fragile on the inside. found it pretty easy to set up and it has worked okay thus far

A Western Digital Drive inside
I found the ReDrive on a clearance rack at Best Buy for , and made an impulse buy. After I got home, I read some of the reviews where people were concerned about the quality of the drive. When I hooked the drive to a Mac and ran Disk Utility, it identified the drive inside as a Western Digital Caviar WD5000AAVS SATA 300 drive. The drive was formatted as NTFS, and in a matter of a few minutes I had reformatted it for Macintosh and started a backup of my Mac's internal hard drive. The only con is that there is no power switch, like most external drives have. I only want the drive to power up when I want to do a backup, and it would be nice to be able to turn it off when I am not backing up. I would have given it 5 stars if it had a switch, but overall I am very happy with the drive, and I was pleasantly surprised to find name-brand media inside.

Simple and reliable
I had an external drive go bad and picked this as replacement. It has a different look but install is just plugging in 2 cables (power & usb). It gets as warm as any other drive, but it seems to handle it fine too. Performance has been as expected. Only issue was with the auto-power feature--drives were not recognized when rebooting, but I attribute that to a problem I had with my PC not shutting down. When the shut down problem was fixed the drives were recognized as advertised. I have no complaints after over 4 months of use.

Works Perfect!

Item is packaged nicely. Hooked up to my Mac and worked perfect. Not a hitch. Not sure what one reviewer was talking about when they mentioned the "fan" running. This drive has no fan. :) It powers down with my computer however I haven't tested the "sleep" function. I have my computer set to put all unused drives to sleep when possible so I assume it will sleep when it needs to.

It is what it is and it works great in my case. Great item for backing files, photos and music up. At a very nice price.

No automatic update
A good external storage device, but you may find that the automatic update of your files does not work.

Seagate FreeAgent 250 GB USB Drive
This drive is great. Small, light and 1-cord. Onboard software allows autobackup of your files. Fast search and copy speeds also. I should have bought two during Amazon's special sale; home and office. Only downside is cord is short but it's really not a major issue.

Recommended without Reservation
Bought the LaCie two months ago because I needed an external drive for my multi-gigabyte Final Cut Express projects... which had been rapidly consuming all available space on my computer's internal drive. [24" iMac 2.8ghz running OS 10.5.x]

It was mindlessly easy to set up [in my case via Firewire 800]. Plug the LaCie's power cord into a wall socket; connect the drive and the LaCie with the Firewire cable; turn it on. That's it.

Without any tweaking on my part the iMac recognized the LaCie as if it were a prodigal son coming home, and they have been working together flawlessly ever since.

One unexpected and truly useful extra: the LaCie comes complete with any connector cables you might need included in the box -- Firewire 400/800, and USB 2.0. Very nice touch.

Great Hard Drive
This is my second Lacie Hard Drive, never had a problem with the first but needed a bigger one after a couple years of use thus the need of a new and bigger one. Thanks.

LaCie 1TB Hard drive 4 different interfaces. Worked as advertised on our G5 to archive and run ProTools Sessions. I will order another soon!.

Apple compatible!
This is a beautiful device--- slender, light, and illuminated!--- and I am especially pleased that I was able to reformat it to work with my MacBook running 10.5.7. Seagate support walked me through the reformatting when I hit a snag (hint: must select the Apple Partition Map). I just wanted to let other price-sensitive Mac users know that this is workable and a less expensive alternative to the pre-formatted Mac version. So far, so good.
